Pen Pals needed for Galveston 1st Graders 2017-18 school year

If you were a Galveston Pen Pal in past years or know someone who was, you know what a fun and easy way it is to connect with and encourage the students at Galveston school!

WHAT IS THE PEN PALS PROGRAM? Approximately once a month Pen Pals write a short letter in the booklet to our student pen pal (the students make the booklets), it gets delivered, and the 1st grade pen pal writes back. The students love to ask questions and tell about themselves, all the while practicing their writing and language skills.  AND the adult pen pals get a unique opportunity to encourage and connect with these sweet students!  What an awesome learning opportunity on so many levels!

We need 20 pen pals to commit to writing to a 1st grader once a month October to May, with the possibility of maintaining the relationship outside of school as well. This year we hope to celebrate with the students at the end of the school year with a party, so the pen pals can meet each other!

WHAT IS THE COMMITMENT? Pen pals are asked to write letters approximately once a month, make sure their pen pal booklets are back to the church on time, and enjoy encouraging little kiddos (approximately 6 years old).  Adult pen pals pick up and drop off their pen pal booklet at Crossroads Mercy Kiosk on Sunday mornings. The Pen Pal Liaison Amy Nichols will drop the booklets off at the school and pick them up after the kids write in them. Most times returning a pen pal booklet does not require an extra trip – just bring it to church!

HOW DO I SIGN UP?? If you are interested in being a pen pal, please contact Amy Nichols by replying to this post or at  It’s a fun opportunity, and you will be blessed by participating!

OUR MISSION is to Love God, Love Each Other, and Love The World.

“Jesus said, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart…soul…and mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and Prophets hang on these two commandments.’” – Matthew 22:37-40

“Jesus said, ‘Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.’” – Matthew 28:19-20

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” – John 13:34-35

OUR VISION is to lead people into a life that is completely connected; firmly rooted in our love for God and fully expressed through our love for others. This is lived out in relationships as we Gather, Grow, & Go.
