We are excited to announce our church’s first family mission trip!

What is a family mission trip, you ask? It’s a mission trip that is open to all ages, planned with opportunities for children in mind. A family mission trip includes families of all sizes – single folks, couples, single parents with kids, and married couples with dependents. If you have wanted to take your children on a mission trip, to share the experience together, this is a great opportunity!!

Puerto Penasco is a 5 hour drive from Chandler. The relatively close distance makes this trip more affordable than other trips, as well as special vaccinations are not required.

Crossroads has an ongoing relationship with Nueva Esperanza (New Hope) Church of the Nazarene in Puerto Penasco. Pastors Miguel and Ale have met with Eduardo & Katy Reyes, Heidi Ellis, and Heidi Shirley-Hawes in the planning of this trip and are excited about the opportunity!

The current plan is to work with a nearby orphanage, a VBS, food boxes for families of prisoners, care kits for the refugees traveling through by train, construction work on the church’s food pantry, assisting an elderly church member/neighbor with adding a toilet to her home, installing/building a garden box for the church members to grow food, and possibly strengthening the fence posts of the fence around the church grounds. There is also a need for a kitchen team – to prepare meals for the team – breakfast, a bagged lunch for the work sites, and dinner.

The facility we have reserved is conducive to families. It is a historic hotel now used solely for church mission groups. Rooms have a queen size bed and bunk beds for parents to stay with their children, as well as some rooms with bunk beds only. Each room has its own bathroom.

The facility is equipped with a large kitchen, dining room space for everyone, a group meeting area for devotions, daily debriefing, and some worship time, as well as a swimming pool. (Some photos are attached.)

Since this is our first family mission trip, we are capping the trip at 50 people. It’s a pilot trip enabling us to work out the details and logistics as we hope to have more family trips in the future!

We are still working on the transportation and food costs, so the trip cost per person is unknown at this time, but we will share that information as soon as we have it. We are attempting to keep the costs as affordable as possible, knowing it can be costly to families with multiple children.

If you did not sign up on the interest sheet during the Mercy Project Ministry Fair on Marcy Project Sunday (May 6), please reply to this post. We’ll do our best to keep you in the communication loop!

In the meantime, pray with us about who God would like to have on this trip, and what He would like us to learn. We want to be open to what He has for us outside of our own expectations.

Praying with you!

Heidi

OUR MISSION is to Love God, Love Each Other, and Love The World.

“Jesus said, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart…soul…and mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and Prophets hang on these two commandments.’” – Matthew 22:37-40

“Jesus said, ‘Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.’” – Matthew 28:19-20

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” – John 13:34-35

OUR VISION is to lead people into a life that is completely connected; firmly rooted in our love for God and fully expressed through our love for others. This is lived out in relationships as we Gather, Grow, & Go.
